What is the Zanskar Valley expedition?
A direct seven-day motorcycle expedition from Manali to Leh through the heart of Zanskar. The route leaves the Manali–Leh highway at Darcha, crosses Shinku La and follows the remote Lungnak Valley through Gonbo Rangjon, Purne and Padum before continuing north towards Leh.
Expect a demanding mix of tarmac, dirt, gravel and river crossings. The expedition reaches 5,091 m at Shinku La, camps beneath the sacred Gonbo Rangjon monolith and stays on the direct Zanskar corridor through Padum, Lingshed and Nimmu to Leh.

Itinerary
Day by day
Day 1Manali to Jispa+
Begin in Manali and ride through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul Valley. Follow the highway past Keylong to Jispa for the first overnight halt and time to settle into the altitude.
Day 2Jispa to Gonbo Rangjon+
Leave the main highway at Darcha and cross Shinku La (5,091 m) into Zanskar. Descend past Kargyak and camp beneath the sacred Gonbo Rangjon rock monolith.
Day 3Gonbo Rangjon to Purne+
Continue north through the remote Lungnak Valley, riding past Zanskari villages and dramatic river gorges to the small settlement of Purne.
Day 4Purne to Padum+
Follow the Zanskar road from Purne to Padum, the valley’s main town. Arrive with time to refuel, rest and prepare for the remote northern section of the journey.
Day 5Padum to Lingshed+
Ride north from Padum through Zangla and continue across the rugged high-altitude tracks towards Lingshed, surrounded by the stark mountains of northern Zanskar.
Day 6Lingshed to Leh+
Cross the high passes beyond Lingshed, descend towards Wanla and join the Srinagar–Leh highway. Continue through Nimmu to finish the expedition in Leh.
Day 7Leh departure+
After breakfast, transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for onward flights.
